Eye Gazer
Asus built this gaming beast from aluminium. A diagonal line separates the two different finishes on the lid where the illuminated signature ROG eye is positioned to the left on the textured finish. A gold line accent runs on the edge of the main chassis of the laptop and the rear. There is a flap at the bottom of the laptop which opens upon lifting the lid for air ventilation.
RGB Everywhere
You will be greeted with an oddly positioned keyboard and touchpad upon lifting the lid open. The top half of the chassis is a slap of metal with holes designed for air ventilation. Below that is where the backlit chiclet keyboard can be found. These are zoned RGB keyboard. The touchpad is oddly placed to the right of the keyboard with the ease of switching it to numeric pad with a push of a button.
Visual and Sound
Asus crammed a 15.6 inch full HD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080. The display panel has full 100% sRGB gamut coverage with a 3ms of grey-to-grey response time. Interesting enough, the display has an amazing 144Hz of refresh rate which is how it should be considering the GTX1060 in it. Two bottom firing speakers rated at 2W each sound pretty good until it distorts at high level volume.
ROG Power
The GX531GM model runs on the 8th gen Intel Coffee Lake Core i7-8750H CPU which has six cores. Then, it has a generous 16GB of DDR4 RAM (up to 24GB). It is no easy feat to be this thin yet powerful at the same time. Things are further compounded by a NVMe PCIE 3.0 SSD storage. On the graphics front, the Zephyrus S here utilises the Nvidia GTX 1060 chip (6GB GDDR5).
Gaming
It is more than capable running the latest games with Very High settings with no visible lag or stuttering. The improved 144Hz refresh rate does wonders as well; sharp visuals with no blurring. Well, with so much power there is bound to be heat. Thus, Asus’ unique and iconic Active Aerodynamic System (AAS) and the two 12V fans with whopping 83 blades each can do the job quite alright. There are three modes – silent, balanced and turbo.
