In the midst of a global pandemic and just a few hours after accidentally leaking four new iPad models, Apple has come out and unveiled the next generation of two of its most iconic products; The MacBook Air and iPad Pro, complete with magic keyboard.
The announcement, which see’s two fan favourite models get a speed, memory and overall user experience upgrade, has long been awaited by Apple fan boys around the world for one simple reason and it’s none other than the death of the problematic butterfly keyboard.
The 2020 MacBook Air will be the first third generation MacBook Air that comes without the company’s much maligned butterfly keyboard. This latest model will instead come with Apple’s Magic Keyboard, first seen in last years 16″ MacBook Pro model. It was no secret that Apple would ditch its butterfly keyboard in favour of a redesigned scissor mechanism for comfort and stability of key feel, but to actually see it officially unveiled is a nice sight.
Of course, there’s also the fact that under the hood, the laptop is much faster. Its CPU performance gets a 2X bump, while the graphics performance is up to 80 percent faster. To top it off, the model also now starts with 256GB of storage and is constructed from 100 percent recycled aluminium, coming in in gold, silver and “Space Grey” finishes.

Which brings us to the iPad Pro. The major update to the iPad besides the obvious triple camera setup is that it finally comes with trackpad support thanks to iPadOS 13.4. Add to that the option of a Magic Keyboard specially made for the iPad, a new A12Z Bionic chip, which makes it faster than most laptops, as well as a LiDAR Scanner and you’ve got yourself a bona fide laptop.. but better.
