The Apple iPhone 4S was announced on 4th October 2011 with much fanfare and anticipation. Making his first official keynote as Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook unveiled the smartphone that many have been waiting for which was earlier thought to be named the iPhone 5. Here is a quick rundown and comparison of the Apple iPhone 4 and the Apple iPhone 4S plus some interesting bit of rumour which might turn you off.
Boasting a powerful dual-core Apple A5 processor, the iPhone 4S is much more faster and responsive than the iPhone 4’s single-core A4 processor. This upgrade is to accommodate also the new iOS5 improvement, 8-megapixel autofocus rear camera with Full HD 1080p camera and the deal-breaker that got Apple fans excited – Siri. The Malay sounding feature does not mean that you can now watch your drama bersiri on your iPhone 4S but it works as a personal digital assistant that recognises your voice.
During the launch, Scott Forstall of Apple demonstrated its capability by asking Siri:
“What is the weather like today?” and the iPhone 4S answers “Here is the forecast for today…”
The list goes on for navigation, alarm clock functions, making appointments, reading text messages and calling your spouse, mother, father and everyone else.
One thing that really got many tech sites abuzz is the rumour that the iPhone 4S has 512MB RAM. This was reported on AppVV who managed to get their hands on the Apple iPhone 4S.
That aside, the iPhone 4S promises a data speed of 14.4 Mbps HSDPA and an enhanced wireless system thanks to its stainless steel band with two antenna structure. In the US, pre-orders of the Apple iPhone 4S have begun and it is expected to be available to 22 more countries on 28th October 2011 and 70 other countries end of the year. We suspect the 70 countries includes Malaysia so let’s hope we get it by 2011 for Christmas.
As for iOS5, October 12th is the date set for free download and it is compatible with the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad, iPad 2, and the 3rd and 4th generation iPod touch.
