Apple has a new business model, support the ecosystem and the results will be beneficial. Rather than building every industry itself and hoarding over the technology, the iPhone maker prefers to fund independent suppliers and have them push for breakthroughs. When to reach that peak, guess who reaps?
One of those vendors who have gained much limelight since the role they played in Apple’s iPhone venture is Corning. A 65 year old Kentucky based tableware manufacturer who rose to global phenomena when they started making hardy displays for smartphones. Apple has just announced a $200 million funding as part of innovation program among American manufacturers. The investment will support Corning’s R&D, capital equipment needs and state-of-the-art glass processing.
