Since the drama of Apple slowing down older iPhones on purpose came to light, Apple has published a letter of apology. In the letter, Apple explains in detail about the ageing process of its batteries and how it can cause older iPhones to unexpectedly shut down.
Through the letter, Apple also states that it will be offering battery replacements for older iPhones at only US$29 (approx. RM117.65). This is a significant decrease to its original US$79 (approx. RM320.50) amount. This is applicable to iPhone 6 and later whose batteries need replacing. This deal will be made available come late January 2018 and will run throughout the course of the year. It will also be available worldwide but no actual date or confirmation have been mentioned as of yet.
The letter also talks about the release of iOS 10.2.1, which was launched a year ago and focused on improving power management when older generations iPhones hit its peak workload. The iPhones in particular were the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus and the iPhone SE. In early 2018, Apple will be introducing a new iOS update with a new feature that gives users more visibility pertaining to the health of their iPhone’s battery. This allows them to see if the condition of their iPhones are affecting its performance.
