Android Slices are UI elements that Google announced at their I/O event 2018. Slices are smaller bits of information and shortcuts which appear in the Google Search App. Slices help to perform tasks faster as it shows up while you type. Right now the Google Search app is one of the only apps that support Slices, but more should be on the way. An example of this is if you typed into the search bar Bluetooth, Slices would show you a link to your own Bluetooth settings.

They are designed to show users key features for apps in places where it makes sense.

Till now, Slices have only shown limited amounts of shortcuts from third party apps. Now it’s being reported that the Google Pixel phones are being able to control various aspects of their phones with the new feature. Unsure yet when other devices will be getting it, but it seems like a good step forward. Hopefully these features come soon as I think I’m gonna be using these quite often. Not having to open an app to make a reservation or book a Grab seems really convenient.

Slices aren’t only exclusive to Android Pie users. Devices running even Android Kitkat will be able to check out the more basic features.
