Adobe Photoshop Elements 9

Overall Improved Editing Software

Most, if not all of us are using digital cameras to capture precious moments with our friends and family and usually a photo editing software is needed to crop, resize or edit any blemishes away. Sometimes whenever we want it to look more creative, a better photo editing software is needed and this is when the Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 comes to play. The version that we reviewed is a trial version which is free for 30 days.

Be Organised

Launching the software, there is two options which leads you to the Organiser or the Editor itself. From the Organiser you can select files from your hard drive and there is a facial recognition software that can detect photos with the similar people.

Basic Editing

Here, you can do simple quick edits on your photos if you don’t want to use the main Editor. Using auto fix, auto levels, auto colours and more, it is for those who are in a rush and do not want to make any major changes to their photos. In the Organiser, there are also options to share your photos and if you edit them in the main Editor, you have to open the Organiser again to share your photos to popular photo sharing sites.

New Features

Moving on to the Editor, Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 introduces Layer Masks which are very useful for times when you want to make changes to the files that you have already edited or if you want to create an opacity effect. Another impressive addition to Elements 9 is the Guided Edit mode which teaches you step-by-step on how to create certain effects such as Lomo, Out of Bounds, Pop art, Reflection and more. With the Spot Healing Brush tool, CS5’s content-aware fill is made possible where you can remove certain subjects in a photo yet retaining the background.

More Exciting Features

The content-aware fill is also available for the Photomerge Panorama tool so that you won’t get rough edges when you stitch the image together. If you like certain effects on a photo and would like to re-create it on to another image, using Style Match makes it easier. Just load a photo and drag another image into the ‘style’ space to the left. The software will then copy the style of the photo, whether pop art, or black and white and you can adjust the intensity of the style. If you took a photo where two people appears to be far apart, the Recompose tool lets you bring the people closer without distorting the images.
