During the recent launch at Lincoln Centre NYC, part from the Note 5 and Edge+ Samsung also announced the date for the Gear S2 smartwatch release, Thursday September 3rd Berlin during the IFA consumer trade show. 

The watch made a surprise appearance when JK Shin, CEO and President of IT & Mobile Division at Samsung showed the audience a circular version of the Gear S2, which ironically looks similar to the LG Urban by the neighbourly rival. There has been leaked information on a round watch called Gear A, referred to as project Orbis Classic possible reference with the design. Rumoured to be running on Samsungs in-house OS Tizen instead of Android Wear used in previous smartwatch models, based on the images shown the minimalistic look and more like a real watch, the classic dial face hides an app wheel that shows various function icons and depending on users preference can be selected to appear on the main screen.

Whether the Gear S2 or the rumoured availability of three variants is true we will find out soon, when the first Gear S came out it had a SIM card slot and wi-fi enabled that did not require tethering with the smartphone, the Gear S2 could swing this way or take the direction of AppleWatch that functions only with the iPhone. Since Tizen is the OS of choice the watch would require a Tizen device to pair or perform all by itself independently and breaking away from the locks and chains of Google. Personally would rather if the wearable s stood independent with basic apps and notifications. With the new stylish design and Samsung taking the watch into the realm of fashion and lifestyle with their LookBook statement, it would make sense for the metallic looking Gear S2 to be sold separately.

And if Samsung Pay can be included into the watch then we can see more use for the device and a whole new retail commercial viability.
