2 Lunch Meal And The New Unifi Mobile Postpaid Plan

Much has been covered by the tech media on Telekom Malaysia’s new Unifi Mobile postpaid plan that offers customers from plans as low as RM19. It wasn’t long ago that no one could fathom a postpaid plan for below two ten ringgit notes, now we are confused between prepaid and postpaid packages on brochures with both looking very identical.

I recall a time when a monthly plan for postpaid required allocating budgets from the paycheck, now its more like adding another item to the grocery bill. But I digress, this is about TM and its all new mobile postpaid plan. The starting offer under the Value Plan is a RM19 deal, which provides 2GB data 1GB 3G and 1GB LTE high speed, no contracts, 5 minutes calls and 25 short messaging service. Basically for 2 lunch meals, one can live off a monthly data plan spending just RM0.63 sen a day. TM is clearly making the entry level service affordable to the B40 segment and heeding the Communication Ministry call to make connectivity available, affordable and speedy to every facet of the population.

We like the whole democratisation that is taking place in the telecommunication industry, as the prices comes down, the uptake will increase and with more consumers joining the ride, network operators will have to improve their service and keep pace with competition. An endless loop that will result in greater offerings and advancement in technology development. As we have mentioned in the past, the entry into new technology is imperative if a nation is to move forward in unison, the stumbling block to connectivity has been the extent of coverage and the lack of lower price point. High speed broadband has to be regarded as an utility just like electricity and water, every household should have access and they have to be at minimum capacity, whats the point in offering cheap water but at trickling levels at the pipes?

Unifi Mobile is currently breaking the price stigma with the RM19 postpaid package, there are also other plans in its arsenal to choose from. For those who require more data can opt for the RM29, RM39 or the RM59 plans. Heavy consumer have also the option for the Ultimate Plan that offers 10GB high speed data and unlimited voice calls for RM99, with home delivery SIM cards.

There you have it, Unifi has got the ball rolling lets hope the rest continue with the price drops…after all whats skipping two meals for the profitable giant telecoms industry?
