YouTube has always been in the spotlight for constantly questionable moderation practices. And this time, it’s especially bad. YouTube, the video bank of the internet recently BANNED Google accounts of users after they spammed emotes while voting during a live playthrough of Markiplier’s interactive movie, ‘A Heist With Markiplier’. I mean, for what? No doubt this was a case of auto-moderation gone awry, along with human error. Markiplier is still one of the biggest YouTubers on the platform, so to see this kind of thing going on is highly discouraging.

But now, while they’ve reinstated a lot of users, not everyone has got their GOOGLE account back. Now if you’re wondering why I’m keeping an emphasis on the world GOOGLE, it’s because it’s their GOOGLE account, not their YouTube account. That means, their Gmail, Google Maps, YouTube, PlayStore, everything. Gone. In a matter of seconds. Isn’t that even that even a little bit concerning? Considering the reason to ban these users were so mundane, immediate, and automatic.

And as I mentioned before, not all accounts have been restored, and YouTube says they’re now “looking into” why human moderators denied appeals to restore accounts, as well how they might “prevent this in the future”. The only reason they’re taking this action is because Markiplier made a video showing how nonesensical the bans really were, as well as about the denied appeals of users.

I mean, people potentially lost their work email, something they need to survive, all their apps and games they’ve purchased on the Play Store, along with who knows how much data we’ve invested into Google. Honestly, this should serve as a from reminder that what Google giveth, Google taketh away.
