It’s just a prank, bro. Well, not this time.
Youtube and Tik Tok twin videographers, Alan and Alex Stokes have been charged with one felony count of false imprisonment affected by violence, menace and one misdemeanor for a prank video filmed in which they pretended to rob a bank and misled members of the public, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
If convicted, they could face up to four years in prison.
The Youtube video featured the pair running around wearing full black body suits and ski masks while stumbling around with duffle bags filled with dollar bills.
The pair then asked bystanders for assistance in the form of a change of clothes and free car rides. At one point, one of the twins even propositioned a girl on a date that would be paid for with the “stolen” money.
The police then arrived soon after, called upon by the driver who thought the pair were trying to rob his car. The police held the driver at gunpoint, mistakenly thinking he was involved in wrongdoing. How these two still went along and uploaded the video after they put a man’s life in danger is beyond me.
At the time, the police let the boys go with a warning but district attorney Todd Spitzer said the prank had broken the law.
“These are crimes that could have resulted in someone getting seriously injured or even killed,” said Spitzer.
“Law enforcement officers are sworn to protect the public and when someone calls 911 to report an active bank robbery, they are going to respond to protect lives.
“Instead, what they found was some kind of twisted attempt to gain more popularity on the internet by unnecessarily putting members of the public and police officers in danger.”
District attorney’s last line just perfectly summarises the idiocy that is the Youtube prank scene. I mean will anyone ever forget when fellow Youtube star and dumber half (if that is even possible) of the Paul twins, Logan Paul filmed what he thought was a funny video in Japan’s “suicide forest”? He filmed a dead body for god’s sake. Sure, there was uproar on it at the time but such is our fast paced news cycle that people forget and now he continues to make videos but not after making the most half assed apology.
Then, we have the other one, Jake Paul who decided it would be a good idea to throw a gigantic house party at one of the worst times during the Covid-19 Pandemic in the USA.
