You tube killing 30sec forced ads

Don’t you just hate it when you’re trying to watch a video and you get hit with an advertisement – and not a short one either, and the skip button won’t activate?

Bad news is – there will still be ads. Good news is, by next year you won’t see the 30-second variants anymore. According to a statement given to Campaigns, YouTube will be focusing on the shorter formats, giving online users a better experience.

“We’ve decided to stop supporting 30-second unskippable ads as of 2018 and focus instead on formats that work well for both users and advertisers,” said a Google spokesman. That being said, ads shorter than 30-seconds, including the 20-second spots, can be made unskippable.

YouTube introduced six second variants last April, and the popular video hosting platform plans to focus on pushing forward this format in the year ahead.

While this move came with mixed reaction, speculations state that YouTube might be feeling some pressure with Facebook’s increasingly video focused strategy.
