With e-payment and online ordering becoming even more pervasive than ever before, it’s safe to say that mamaks are one of the last remaining footholds of the old days, at least in terms of the ordering and payment process. That being said, WeChat is picking up on that low hanging fruit and is set to introduce WeChat Pay in Mamaks and restaurants across the Klang Valley.

Yes, that’s right, the mamak experience just got a whole lot better, for the younger generation at the very least. Collaborating with some of the city’s most frequented mamak eateries, WeChat Pay MY’s Smart Order system will allow users to browse, order and pay for their food and drinks all from the convenience of their seat. The goal is to circumvent having to actually wait for a waiter and the long lines you’d normally see at Nasi Kandar joints per se.

It’ll be interesting to see just how much more convenient this whole process will be. With a plethora of e-wallets coming up and the number major outlets that support WeChatPay MY still limited, are things really going to be that much simpler? I for one, am not a big fan of having to reload each one of my many e-wallets individually. In fact, it’s more of an inconvenience for me. Will the good folk of the Klang Valley utilize WeChat Pay just for this reason alone? We’ll have to wait and see.

With the system set to be implemented starting next week onwards at Syed Bistro PJ (they’ve cut out a deal with the Syed Bistro chain of restaurants), the wait won’t be long. We’ll keep you updated on just how great the whole not needing to leave your seat experience is.
