Ah, the advent of the foldable screen is well and truly upon us. With the market being confined to just the Samsung Galaxy Fold for now, consumers (in China at least) can finally rejoice as the Huawei Mate X has officially started going on sale in China through it’s Vmall online store.

If you’re wondering how much it’s selling for, well, it can be yours for a mere RM10,000. The phone is retailing for 16,999 Yuan in China, and with Chinese pricing for tech gadgets being quite similar to that of Malaysia, you best expect it to sell for about the same price here.

Now of course, the big question is when can we see the Mate X in Malaysia?

While Huawei stated last month that Mate X access would depend on 5G deployments in other countries and that expansion was “under review”, it’s extremely hard to see the device launching anywhere that doesn’t end with China. Trump’s ban on the company may not have affected domestic sales at all, but according to CNN, international sales have suffered a dip.

I suppose it is as you would have expected, given that the phone can’t ship with Google anything installed. It looks like the biggest competitor to the Galaxy fold is going to be the revamped Motorola RAZR, which I sure as hell hope comes to our shores when it launches globally in 2020.
