Xiaomi the Chinese mobile phone maker took the wraps off the all new interface, MIUI 7 , its a comprehensive upgrade to its Android-based operating system it has a livelier interface with better performance, battery-saving optimizations and a wider variety of personalization options.
A new feature in MIUI 7 is face recognition in Gallery, which identifies the people in your photos and groups the images together. Xiaomi CEO and co-founder Lei Jun said: “The MIUI R&D team is now 750-strong, and MIUI has crossed 150 million users over 156 countries and regions. We are taking our UI to a new level with MIUI 7, which is designed for you, and aimed at making your smartphone your closest companion.” The launch of the global version of the new UI will take place in New Delhi, India, on August 19 a stronghold for the phone maker.
Apart from the new interface, the company also announced the release of Redmi Note 2 today. Starting at RMB 799, Redmi Note 2 comes with a 2.0GHz MediaTek (MTK) Helio X10 processor, 16GB storage and 2GB RAM. Also available at RMB 999 is Redmi Note 2 Prime with a 2.2GHz chip, 32GB storage and 2GB RAM. Both are equipped with a 5.5-inch full-HD display, 13MP rear camera and 5MP front camera, and will be available online in China starting August 16.
The flagship-grade 64-bit Helio X10 processor has eight ARM Cortex-A53 cores, all of which can be utilised when necessary for performance intensive tasks. Redmi Note 2 Prime can achieve up to a 54,024 score on benchmarking test Antutu. Other features of Redmi Note 2 / Redmi Note 2 Prime include: • 16GB/32GB eMMC 5.0 internal storage • 2GB LPDDR3 RAM • 13-megapixel rear camera with phase detection autofocus • 5-megapixel front camera with Beautify mode • Large 3060mAh removable battery • IR blaster • microSD card slot for memory expansion Redmi Note 2 will ship with MIUI 6, but will receive the new MIUI 7 update at a later date.
Xiaomi also announced the Mi Wi-Fi nano for RMB 79 today, a premium PCB smart router that is quite small as the image above refers.
