2017 is the year of smartphones without a bezel on the display screen. With the likes of Samsung, LG and Essential leading the charge, some tend to forget that Xiaomi was the OG when it came to bezel-less displays with the first ever Xiaomi Mi Mix smartphone. This year, Xiaomi introduces the Mi Mix 2, a direct successor to its first iteration and will feature a smaller display as compared to the 6.44-inch Mi Mix.

Much like its older brother, the Mi Mix 2 will come with an edge-to-edge display and will be paired with a 5.99-inch display screen and an 18:9 aspect ratio. The display screen will be a vibrant LCD panel with a pixel resolution of 2,160 x 1,080. The Mi Mix 2 will also feature a border-less top while the border below will be slightly larger as it houses the front-facing camera.

As it is Xiaomi’s latest flagship smartphone, the Mi Mix 2 will come with a Snapdragon 835 processor alongside 6GB of RAM and three internal storage variations: 64, 128 or 256GB. All these components will be powered with the 3,400mAh battery and if you’re looking for something beefier, the Mi Mix 2 will come in a Special Edition that offers 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.

What makes the Mi Mix 2 Special Edition… well, special, is its ceramic unibody as the regular version just comes with a ceramic back.

Sadly, there are some features of the Mi Mix 2 that doesn’t keep it on the same level with other flagship smartphones of 2017 like its single-lens camera instead of following the dual-camera trend. However, the 12-megapixel camera comes with an optically stabilised f/2.0 lens so you’re guaranteed great pictures, at least. Aside from that, the Mi Mix 2 will not feature any sort of water resistance nor will it come with a headphone jack and lastly, no wireless charging capabilities.
