Xiaomi has launched a Photography Challenge to give budding photographers a chance to win up a share of USD50,000 (~RM208,950) based on themes set by the company. This year’s theme has been set as “Ordinary | Extraordinary”. Likely to show the differences between what is ordinary and extraordinary. The theme is also divided into four sub-categories;
- Natural Look which covers portrait photography,
- Piece of the World which covers landscapes and big scenes,
- Dreamscape which is photos that have light in dark scenes,
- Why So Serious? Sub-category for any creative shots that participants submit
Photos submitted must come from a Xiaomi phone to qualify. This competition comes right after Xiaomi released the Mi Mix 3 recently in China. The timing of this competition also comes after mobile camera authority DxOMark recently ranked the phone at 108 points, which is on par with the Samsung Galaxy Note 9. This seems to be the highest ranking among Xiaomi’s latest offerings.
The website for the competition also showcases some amazing shots, and some of the other submissions by users. You can submit your photographs directly to the website.
The judges for the competition this year is made up of four prominent professionals including; Gueorgui Pinkhassov and Jerome Sessini who are both members of the photographic co-operative Magnum Photos. The other two judges are Wang Xiang, Xiaomi’s Senior Vice President and Manu Jain, who is Xiaomi’s Vice President and Xiaomi India’s Managing Director. The judges will have to pick from the top 100 contestants, while final winners will be selected by Mi Fans themselves, who will be voting for their favourite submissions. Mi Fans are those who are a group of Mi owners who have joined the global forum to get together and discuss all things related to Xiaomi phones.
Last year, the competition was held with 13,000 participants from all over the globe with the winner walking away with USD30,000 (~RM125,370) as the top prize.
