Worldwide PC Shipments Experienced Flat Growth in the Third Quarter of 2018

Reports by Gartner show that only a total of 67.2 million units Worldwide PC shipments in the third quarter of 2018.

While EMEA, Asia Pacific and Japan had experienced growth in the third quarter of the year, observations in the U.S and Latin America showed decline in shipments. A steep decline of 8.5 % was recorded in Latin America after showing some stabilization early 2018.

“The PC market continued to be driven by steady corporate PC demand, which was driven by Windows 10 PC hardware upgrades. We expect the Windows 10 upgrade cycle to continue through 2020 at which point the upgrade demand will diminish,” said Mikako Kitagawa, principal analyst at Gartner.

With a growth of 10.7 %, Lenovo had managed to secure the top spot in the PC market mostly by regaining traction in the commercial market and its joint venture with Fujitsu. On the other hand, HP Inc had dropped to the second position but had recorded a fourth consecutive quarter of year-over-year shipment growth.

Gartner reports that though consumer segment will continue to prove to be a challenge in terms of unit sales, the demand had remained at the mid range to premium price points, resulting in purchases from consumers who look for features, functions and quality built for specific needs.
