Windows Phones Supported for Creators Update Isn’t Showing Latest Build

Windows has started to roll out their Creators Update for all PC and every Windows 10 PC can get the update. On mobile however it’s a slightly different matter.

Microsoft wrote in a post that only some Windows 10 Mobile devices will receive the Creators Update when it’s ready. According to Microsoft, here’s the list of supported device – and it’s not a very long list:

  • HP Elite x3
  • Microsoft Lumia 550
  • Microsoft Lumia 640/640XL
  • Microsoft Lumia 650
  • Microsoft Lumia 950/950 XL
  • Alcatel IDOL 4S
  • Alcatel OneTouch Fierce XL
  • SoftBank 503LV
  • VAIO Phone Biz
  • MouseComputer MADOSMA Q601
  • Trinity NuAns NEO

However, it was noted that some eligible devices are not getting the updates – this includes variants of the Alcatel IDOL 4S, are not being offered Build 15204. Microsoft said they are planning to include those devices in the next round of updates.

Microsoft wrote that devices not on the list will not get updates, or any future builds from the Development Branch. Users who still wants to get the Creators Update are free to do so – but “at their own risk knowing that it’s unsupported” Microsoft warns.

“We recognise that many Insiders will be disappointed to see their device is no longer supported. We looked at feedback from our Windows Insiders and realised that we were not providing the best possible experience for our customers on many older devices. That helped us determine which devices we support for the Windows 10 Creators Update.” Dona Sarkar, Software Engineer, Windows and Devices Group wrote in the post.
