With WhatsApp’s latest update, users will be able to enjoy a new and useful feature: peer-to-peer payments. When users open the app, they will see a pop-up asking them to agree to the terms and conditions and privacy policy of the service. Above this reminder is a short description of the new feature, saying “immediate bank to bank transfer with UPI”.

However, there’s been word that users can also take a look at a similar feature on Facebook Messenger to get a better idea on how the entire system will work. On Messenger, users are able to send money to other Facebook users and hopefully, WhatsApp’s implementation also retains the same simple transaction process.

It might take several more weeks, maybe even months, before the feature is deployed on the app. When it does, the payment transfer service would most probably be limited to a selected set of countries.
