WhatsApp has already stopped working on Windows phones as of today, and they’re not stopping there. If you were the tedious kind, who’ve kept their smartphone for the longest time, you might need to think about upgrading if you’re keen on using WhatsApp. The From Facebook messaging app has now updated that they’ll be only supporting devices on the following firmware:
- Android: OS 4.0.3+
- iPhone: iOS 9+
- Select phones running KaiOS 2.5.1+, including JioPhone and JioPhone 2
Once you have one of these devices, simply install WhatsApp and verify your phone number. Keep in mind that WhatsApp can only be activated with one phone number on one device at a time.
According to WhatsApp, users on older devices which are running OS lower than Android 4.0.3 and iOS 9 will be unable to register or verify their devices and sign to the app, starting from 1st February 2020. So if you were still somehow on these operating systems, maybe it’s time to get yourself a new phone. Windows users have it worse (are there still any around?) as support stopped today, December 31st 2019 and WhatsApp ‘might’ not be available in the Microsoft Store after July 1st, 2019.
But I guess, if you’re still using a phone that runs any OS that old, I think you deserve a new phone, honestly. Why not get one to celebrate the New Year?
