P1 Networks since being acquired by national telecommunication operator Telekom Malaysia, has now made a major change to the purchased entity by re-branding the company to webe. To be known as a new digital mobility services provider, webe will soon launch its LTE network in Malaysia, according to CC Puan Cief Executive Officer, webe’s business and network services are approaching market readiness and is on track for a commercial launch this year.
The first thing on every ones mind was the name, what does webe mean? To this the management team said it came up with the concept that its about We+Be a philosophy in the principle of ‘We’ being greater than me and the freedom to ‘Be’ yourself. With a tagline ‘start here. go anywhere’ the idea is being able to reach out to various community and come together to make things happen. webe has identified 7 community projects that it will kick off to commensurate the new brand identity, as for mobile plans, consumers can look forward to prepaid and postpaid plans soon from the revitalised telco in coming months. Riding on its 4G spectrum and the fixed line giant TM, webe will be able to offer a wide array of solutions converging on both their strengths. TM lacked the wireless mobility solution to complete its menu and P1 just lacked financial resources to make any headway, but all that changed and the new entity is set to shake things up in the highly competitive industry.
With churn rate across the telco’s seeing its highest ever, webe reentering the pitch could only raise the heat, unlike resource strapped P1, this time CC Puan has the might of TM to wiggle himself a spot among the 4 players. As one TM insider shared with PC.com, “being the biggest telecommunication company in the country, do you think TM would be okay with being number 4, 3 or 2 in the wireless space” a comment that could send shivers in some of the other operators spines.
