Viu Streaming Comes to Celcom Starts From RM3 Per Week

As network stability and bandwidth improves, mobile phone users get to experience rich contently seamlessly mainly attributing to the availability of 4G and LTE. Google reports,hours of consumption on its YouTube video platform increases in tandem when network speeds go up. This has lead to Malaysia having one of the regions highest video consumption population.

It is this reason we can see mobile operators have begun offering video streaming service over their network from top content providers including Hong Kong based PCCW owned Viu. The video on demand provider has just signed a partnership agreement with Celcom to offer top Korean movies and dramas to the 10 million Celcom subscribers.

Commenting on the partnership, Azwan Khan bin Osman Khan, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Business Operations, Celcom Axiata Berhad said, “The consumer trend is that VOD entertainment has become a necessity amongst tech-savvy consumers, and they expect to access such content anywhere via their mobile devices.

With over 65% of the content from Viu consumed over mobile devices, the prospect of tying up partnerships with telco’s has been the core strategy for its success in Malaysia. From this month Celcom prepaid and postpaid subscribers will be able to enjoy premium Viu content at just RM3 for a weekly subscription or RM10 for a month. With a premium subscription, viewers will have access to priority viewing of fresh content and uninterrupted content viewing without advertisements.

Tapping into the rising popularity of Korean content in Malaysia, Viu has also collaborated with tvN Movies to add over 200 hours of top quality, award-winning films such as Confidential Assignment and Train to Busan. This is in addition to a slew of the latest Chinese and Indonesian dramas including Solaso Bistro, Operation Love and Panji Laras.
