Two days back East Malaysia internet users on Unifi experienced a no-connection scenario and were up in arms with the disruption. TM was immediately blamed for the slow down and people when on the internet to vent their frustration. But the telecom giant had no part in the latest incident, this time and most often the disconnection is due to external factors.

A cable cut due to vandalism in Sibu and Tanjung Manis in Sarawak was identified as the cause for the latest incident, This lead to a number of Unifi and TM fixed line customers in these two areas to be affected. However, users can breathe a sigh of relief as the affected lines have been fully restored and operating as normal. Although the impact was contained to a small pocket, but the effects of not having connectivity could potentially bring serious repercussion to business, individual and institutions. In this day of technology where being connected is just as important of having electricity, a temporary disruption can cause heavy loses or even lives. Culprits who vandalise utilities like telecom line should be taken to task and a heavy fines must be meted out. Only then the message will be clear on the seriousness of the issue.

TM has indicated that they are currently investigating the root cause.
