Sarawak Disaster Management Committee has announced that the first patient with COVID-19 to die in Malaysia has been confirmed. The victim is a 60-year-old pastor in Emmanuel Baptist Church in Kuching, and passed away at 11am today, 17th March 2020 at Sarawak General Hospital.

They secretariat who released the statement also added that 193 close contacts of the deceased have been traced and are undergoing home-quarantine.

The statement also included that Sarawak had recorded 11 new positive cased on Tuesday: six from Kuching, three from Limbang and one from Betong and Lawas each.

The statement also mentions a 45 COVID-19 cases in Sarawak have been traced to four clusters, namely, Sri Petaling Cluster, Kuching (Chruch) Cluster, Sarikei Cluster and another cluster in Kuching, which the source of has yet to be identified.

Malaysia’s Ministry of Health have confirmed another death from COVID-19 in Malaysia as case 178, a man aged 34 who had attended the tabligh rally in Sri Petaling. He was diagnosed on March 5th and treated at Hospital Permai.

Malaysia’s Ministry of Health has also confirmed that the total number of cases in Malaysia is now 673. Of the 120 new COVID-19 cases, 95 are linked to the cluster case from the Sri Petaling gathering. 7 patients also have been cured, bringing the total that have been discharged to 49.
