Redmi Note 7 Pro Explodes In India; Xiaomi Customer Service Blames Owner Instead

In what’s more bizarre news of the day, Vikesh Kumar in Gurgaon India, reported his Redmi Note 7 Pro had blown up. The story was reported by 91mobiles who interviewed Kumar who explained that on March 13th,  while he was on his way to work and noticed his Note 7 Pro becoming extremely hot. After taking the phone out of his pocket, he noticed the phone emitting smoke from its battery and threw it on the ground.

But he ended up throwing the phone right onto his bag, and subsequently, the phone “exploded” according to him. This in turn, damaged the backpack as well as obliterating his Redmi Note 7 Pro.

He also claimed that the fire grew so big that it couldn’t be put out even when using a fire extinguisher. He didn’t suffer any physical harm, but when he went to the Xiaomi service centre, they apparently tried to blame him for the explosion.

They also attempted to convince him to pay 50 percent of the smartphone’s cost to get a new Redmi Note 7 Pro as a replacement. Safe to say, that’s some sh*tty customer service.

They then proceeded to list the device as having a ‘Power On Fault’ rather than the blast itself which is questionable as well. Kumar also mentions he had purchased the device in December 2019, so it’s not very long at all and could potentially be a manufacturing problem, akin to Samsung’s Note 7 incident in 2016.

But alas, so far, this seems to be an isolated incident but users of the Note 7 Pro should at the very least be wary of this case. Luckily, Kumar managed to get by unscathed after the incident, but there’s no telling how much worse it could’ve been.

Xiaomi did explain themselves in a statement over to techradar, where they said:

“The case has been resolved amicably with the customer, ensuring full satisfaction of the consumer. We deeply care for our consumers and are providing all necessary assistance,” Xiaomi said.

So essentially, nothing.
