Unifi’s #Khabarbaik 2.0 Event; 5G Is Already Here

Moharmustaqeem Mohammed, Acting EVP, unifi, today revealed that the nation’s first TDD pre-5G
wireless technology has already entered its commercial phase at Setiawalk Puchong and will soon
roll out in more areas nationwide.

Unifi is hosting a new line of events to announce something. Their new campaign with the #khabarbaik slogan is meant to tell us some good news. But being TM, I’m somewhat skeptical. They previously announced their last campaign, the infamous ‘bawang’ campaign. All that was posted beforehand was a picture of an onion with “#JanganMembawang”.

This left users interested, and confused on what they could possibly be announcing. But turns out it was just a Hari Raya Ad. It was actually the first ever Hari Raya Ad to be broadcast of ‘Facebook Live’, but still. They left quite a lot of people disappointed.

The first #khabarbaik event covered 24 hour installation from TM, alternative tech for better internet, and TM points being open on weekends.

Now with the #Khabarbaik 2.0 event they’ve left no mention on what the it’s about prior to the event. But now all is revealed. The #Khabarbaik 2.0 event revealed that TM aims to be the first 5G network in all of Malaysia. Unifi showcased Malaysia’s First Time Division Duplex (TDD) Pre-5G Wireless Technology. The project which launched Q4 last year, has already entered the commercial phase at SetiaWalk, Puchong which has residential blocks, malls and offices.

Nazeem Nasir, General Manager of Product and Lai Shu Wei, VP of Marketing & Communication, announced the new WTTX offering which uses the pre-5G technology for residents at Setiawalk Puchong.

At the showcase, Moharmustaqueem Mohammed, Activg Executive Vice President of unifi said;

“The technology is set to improve unifi’s wireless connectivity services, especially for high-rise buildings and dense residential areas with low fixed broadband penetration, allowing for wireless internet access sharing at home and on-the-go within LTE coverage areas. This project will also address many ongoing infrastructure challenges in areas without fibre coverage, offering speed upgrades of up to 30Mbps via wireless broadband, and peak throughput may go up to 80Mbps.”

Unifi has been developing the first TDD pre-5G technology, and with that can deliver large capacity at about 500Mbps. This is 2 times faster than current 4G technology. This will also improve Unifi’s mobile experience. To demonstrate the capability of the tech, local rock band, Estranged using the wireless home broadband service for their digital activities.

Other news announced at the event include more ease and convenience to sign up with Unifi.

With immediate effect, you can maker a referral to friends and family. All you have to do is log in and get the referral code. They will then be able to sign up immediately. There is now a promotional offer, where users who refer someone will get a RM 10 shopee voucher. More and more people can spread the khabarbaik. Also a Hackathon for students to take part in, and stand a chance to win RM 10,000 and an internship at Unifi.

In relation to when users outside of SetiaWalk will get the service, Unifi has not stated yet. They do advise telling and asking for 5G, because they aim to provide customers what they ask for. So tweet, go into a TM point, or wherever you can, and lets get 5G for everyone in Malaysia!
