Unifi and Steamyx have been the topic of discussion for a while now. And that’s mainly because Steamyx users have been left in what seems to be high speends in the early 2000’s, of about 8Mbps. Oh, and they’re paying about RM160 when unifi has fibre plans for 100Mbps and a TV plan, for the same price. So you can understand the outrage Streamyx customers feel.
But now, what seems to have come out thin air, Unifi Air. According to leaks from Amanz of a slide to a pitch deck, reveals Unifi Air, a proposed plan to bring Unifi and fibre-like internet connections to those who don’t have access to fibre ports.
Based on the slides, Unifi Air will give customers access to higher, fibre-like speeds with the mobile LTE 2.3Ghz band. This will come along with Huawei’s B618-65D LTE device equipped with a SIM card. Oh, and this will be locked so you can’t transfer the SIM to your phone, or other devices.
The plan will apparently be available for RM79/month and will come with an unlimited quota on a 24 month contract. There will also be no upfront payments, and users won’t have to pay for the LTE device itself either.
This could change the game for Streamyx customers who have basically not been able to enjoy the same internet speeds that we ever so often, take for granted.
