A 15 hour downpour in Penang has left many stranded and roads flooded, the natural disaster struck the holiday island unexpectedly as torrential rail continue to effect West Malaysia. Among the worst hit places are residential areas in Prai, Butterworth and Bukit Mertajam. Meanwhile on the island Chintra Street, Chulia, Church and Kimberly were overflowing with flood water as drains could not hold the volume.

In view of the current situation, Uber Malaysia has stepped up efforts to support the community and will not be imposing any surge pricing which is usually done when demand for rides go up and will also not impose any cancellation fees as the ride hailing service provider seeks to assist those in need. As drivers providing the service are also affected, Uber has reminded riders that there will be limited drivers on the app, especially on areas that is badly hit.
