And yet there are still worse to spend 200 dollars.
It’s pretty crazy how far we’ve come in recent years. Remember when Uber had only just set up shop here in Malaysia? They’d been running their ride hailing service for a couple of years by then and we all thought that it couldn’t possibly get much better than Uber Black. Well, Uber came and went in Malaysia but the folks over in the US of A are all set to experience the next level in ride hailing: Uber Copter.
According to a report in the New York Times, Uber will offer air transit starting July 9th in New York City. The service will be available to Uber Rewards members who’ve obtained Platinum and Diamond status. Unsurprisingly, the rides will feature dynamic pricing, which is basically the same demand based pricing system Uber implemented here, with the average ride set to cost between $200 and $225, according to Uber Elevate’s Nikhil Goel.
As for the routes that the Uber Copter will take, it is set to stick to one predetermined route that runs between a location near the Staten Island Ferry in Manhattan and Kennedy Airport for now. Flights are expected to last a grand total of 8 minutes. While Uber hasn’t publicly announced the service as of yet, according to the article, there will be space for up to five passengers on board with two pilots.
Personally, this seems more like a gimmick than an actual practical form of travel. I mean yeah it’s cool and all but at an average cost of 200 dollars and a very limited choice when it comes to choosing where you actually want to go, i’m much better off just hailing a regular Uber. All that being said though, it would be cool to roll up in a freaking helicopter. Plus i’m sure there are some men out there who have spent 200 dollars for an experience only for it to end up lasting a lot less than 8 minutes so I suppose this isn’t the worst way to splurge your cash.
