When it comes to telco providers in Malaysia, the original three of Maxis, Celcom and Digi have always offered deals that compete directly with each other, but never have they ever introduced the kind of data plans that go directly head to head with the disruptor of the industry, U Mobile.
Perhaps they never felt the need to, or maybe they couldn’t justify the low prices that U Mobile was offering because it would kind of make their other plans look like a scam? Who knows? Whatever it is, it doesn’t matter! Maxis and Celcom have recently threw their hats into the ring with the introduction of the Hotlink Unlimited Prepaid and Xpax Unlimited Passes.
While there are subtle differences between the plans, it’s obvious that both plans are a direct response to U Mobile’s GX30 plan with the unlimited data, the 3Mbps speed and RM35 starting price point. U Mobile has now clapped back at the two telcos trying to step on their turf by doubling the speed, hotspot quota and also offering unlimited calls to all networks.
Let’s face it, when it comes to unlimited plans, U Mobile are the OG’s, and with Hotlink & Xpax offering nearly the same deals to its customers, U Mobile is taking it up a notch by social distancing themselves from what the two other brands are offering with their new plans.
The Giler Unlimited Prepaid enhancements will kick into effect on 12 June 2020 and they are as follows:
- GX30 prepaid customers will enjoy double the speeds for unlimited data at 6mbps and double the hotspot data quota at 6GB for the same price of just RM1 a day.
- GX38 prepaid customers will now enjoy unlimited local calls to all networks, on top of the doubled hotspot data to 6GB and unlimited data at 6mbps.

All the enhancements are applicable from 12 June 2020 at no additional charge for new and existing GX prepaid customers. Current GX prepaid customers will receive the new offerings automatically in their next renewal cycle.
In light of the current climate, all eligible prepaid and postpaid U Mobile customers who are Malaysians or Permanent Residents will also receive GoInsure 3 for free. GoInsure 3 is a Personal Accident (PA) insurance product that also provides additional coverage for COVID-19.
