There could be a hidden feature in Twitter for Android that could let you tweet multiple relevant tweets together. Coined as the “tweetstorm”, users can chain tweets together, allowing for tweeting beyond 140 characters.

According to Twitter user Devesh Logendran, Twitter has built, but not launch, a feature for composing tweetstorms. Currently said to be hidden within the Android app, the feature allows users to write out a tweetstorm and see it broken into distinct tweets, then tweet them all at once.

While we personally cannot verify this feature, screenshot below seems suite plausible.

According to a statement to TechCrunch, Twitter noted that there is “no comment to share on the record” regarding the feature that refers to tweetstorms as “threads”. There is no additional information on a timeline for this feature, or indeed if it would see the light of day. It doesn’t appear to be for public testing either.

Typically, you need to know to reply to you previous tweet one at a time to build a tweetstorm, not just tweet separately or reply the first tweet. As users do make mistakes, storms tend to get broken up in the timeline.

But one of Twitter’s core problems is that it doesn’t feel approachable for the average joes and janes, leading to its weak user growth the last few years. Seeing tweetstorms and not understanding how they work, or messing up when you try yourself can discourage people from sticking with the app.

Twitter’s already made a wise push to simplify itself in other ways, like dropping media embeds or usernames in replies from the character count. Launching a tweetstorm button could remove one more confusing block from the wall dividing Twitter from the mainstream.
