Yesterday was Valentine’s Day and the celebration this year is not quite as lively as it was in previous years. If you are single, well, let’s assume that it is just your time yet to shine. Everyone will have their significant other, no matter of time.

There are lots of places for one to find their soulmate. Some found them on the streets, some found them through the arrangements made by family and some found them online. So, today, we are going to disclose 5 most common dating apps that can be used by Malaysians.
- Baituljannah

Claimed as a Shariah-compliance dating app, baituljannah.com can help you in finding fellow Muslims to become your soul mate.
The features of the app are just like any other dating app except that it is Islamic. All the participants will be filtered and conversations, known as ‘taaruf’ will be monitored for the purpose of etiquette.
It is also claimed to be free from any spams and the privacy will be taken care of by the app. Simply sign up and then converse but remain conservative.

Some people really are just God’s favourite that it doesn’t take much effort for them to find soulmates on common social media. Ask your friends! There must be someone you know or your friends know that found their loved ones there.
Facebook is a common social media, on the surface. Very harmless and can be used by everyone. Initially, we use Facebook for the sake of daily communication as well as making friends or networking.
However, in the world of possibilities, making friends can be extended as making partners. Though it is an innocent antic, always be cautious as there are lots of cases as well regarding online dating scams on Facebook.
According to The Independent, trade association UK Finance recorded a 20 per cent increase in bank transfer fraud linked to romance scams between January and November 2020, compared with a year earlier.
- Bumble

Bumble is a location-based social application that facilitates communication between interested users. This is the only website that lets females make the first move by initiating the conversation with the matched male users.
A year after its launch in 2014, the application claimed 15 million subscribers and 80 million meetings. Last year, Bumble had 54 million monthly users, according to Bloomberg, and 2.4 million paid subscribers through Bumble and Badoo.
The app also seemed as a ‘feminist’ social media which is somehow has succeed with teens, millennials and older demographics. The app also extends meetings to simply make friends with Bumble BFF, or to professional networking with Bumble Bizz.
- Omi

The ads for this app can be found almost everywhere and honestly, it is so cringe that it’s good.
Basically, it is almost the same with any other dating app which uses the feature of ‘swipe’ and ‘match’. Unless if you are one of the users (or once used it) you can see that the users are mostly among Malays.
As one of the users (awkward smile), Omi has a good marketing approach. They promote their ads everywhere using catchy yet cringy plot and dialogues. However, those are one of the contributing factors for the users to download it.
“Want to know more about me? Check it on Omi!” – translated Malay language ads of Omi.
- Tinder

It would be a sin if this OG is not included in the list. For those who don’t know (yes, there are people who don’t know what is Tinder), Tinder is an American geosocial networking and online dating application that allows users to anonymously swipe to like or dislike other profiles based on their photos, a small bio, and common interests. Once two users have “matched”, they can exchange messages.
To use Tinder, you must create a profile, noting your current location, gender, age, distance, and gender preferences. Here is where the trend of ‘swipe for the right ones’ begins. If you like the particular person, swipe it right and if you don’t, swipe it left. And if they do the same to your profile, congratulations, you found a match.
According to Financial Times, Tinder reported a record 3bn “swipes” in a single day. Shares in parent company Match, whose subsidiaries also include Hinge and OkCupid, traded at a record high in mid-December as it joined the Nasdaq 100 in the second quarter of 2020.
With all the dating apps mentioned, it is one’s choice to get into a relationship. Relationships are not for everyone and it should have not been forced for anyone to do so. After all, every app can be a dating app if one knows how to apply it as such.
Happy belated Valentine’s Day for those who are celebrating it and for those who are still seeking, may you find one of your own soon.
