As we head into the new year, we’ve rounded up some of the best and not-so-best games that came out in 2019. And now, we’re looking ahead, moving forward, and bringing you some of our most anticipated games that’ll be releasing for PC gamers in 2020.
This’ll be a mixed bag of games across various genres and play styles, so we’ve made sure to pick out the games we’re looking forward to most! A PC gamer but not quite sure what you’re gonna need for the latest and greatest of next year’s lineup? Don’t worry, we’ve researched and the exact specifications that you should have to best enjoy these games with!
Well, we tried to anyway, but some games haven’t really given us much details, so we’ll have to make
do. Do note that we did add in some games that were released on other platforms, but are coming for PC next year, as well as games that released late 2019 because to be frank, you could still play these games into the New Year. So do check out our lineup, and let us know what you think of the list, or what should’ve been there instead!
That being said, let’s get to the games!
#10. Monster Hunter World: Iceborne
Monster Hunter World: Iceborne has been available for the PS4 and Xbox One for quite some time now,
as it originally released September 6th 2019. While it isn’t exactly new, it will be new for PC players as
they MHW fanbase has been pretty steady throughout its lifespan, and Iceborne has revived the game for many.
The Iceborne expansion features an all-new story that picks up after the events of the main
game, and brings the hunter to the Hoarfroast Reach, a chilly tundra with monsters aplenty. With a new , location there’s new things to find, more monster to hunt, and even more quests, and just builds on an already stellar game.
It also features some pretty great new additions to the game including a new map and terrain, great
new monsters, and more weapons, armor, the normal add-ons in a DLC expansion like this. The game also features a great new tool called the Clutch Claw, which honestly totally changed the dynamics of many hunts. It’s overall just a great time playing, especially when you gather a few friends to hunt down some pretty sick looking monsters.
Speaking of monsters, they’re bringing back some old-time favourites from the Monster Hunter franchise like the menacing Tigrex, Nargacuga, Zinogre, Barioth, and more!
The DLC also brings some quality of life updates, and gets you a great new house in the Hoarfrost
Region. Now, it truly feels like a complete game and that I have a reason to come back home, rather than just showing up to change my hair, or check out my cats that I sent out on an adventure.
The Gathering Hub is also now a spa, so you can rest in between quests with your hunting buddies, with a footbath, steam, and even hot springs! It’s not really that substantial to the overall plot of the game, but it just makes the world seem more alive and I am honestly all for it.
The game has a spec recommendation of an Intel Core i7 3770 3.4GHz or Intel Core i3 8350 4GHz or
AMD Ryzen 5 1500X processor, 8GB of RAM, and a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 (VRAM 3GB) or AMD
Radeon RX 570 (VRAM 4GB) graphics card. You’re gonna need some firepower to run the latest DLC
from Monster Hunter: Iceborne, so make sure you’ve got these things in hand before you get the game!
#9. Gears 5
Gears of War has been Microsoft’s star in the third-person analogue franchise for the longest
time, and now, their latest game Gears 5 is no exception. Considering along the lines of other
franchise stars such as Halo, it’s admirable. While not technically a 2020 release, the game did
come out for PC late 2019, so it’s still a solid choice for a good game for the coming year.
The game has pretty much similar tropes to previous games, and comes right after the events of Gears 4. But if you’re new to the franchise, they’ll give you a full recap in the extras section of the game. So, don’t be intimidated into coming to a new universe, they’ve got you.
The game follows the son of the series protagonist Marcus Fenix, J.D. Him and his best friends
Del and Kait join up with the COG Army after the events in Gears 4. They’re still figuring things
out, but they’re fighting for a cause. The games gets a little more convoluted in the story telling
later on, but in a good way. But the one thing to note about the game is that it is stunning to look
at.
The environments, the character design, animations, along with the copious amounts of gore makes it just something to get lost in, and often times you’d forget what you were doing. And of course, you know the best way to play visually appealing games is on PC.
The game’s base spec recommendation is 8GB of RAM, an AMD Ryzen 3 or Intel i5 Skylake
CPU for the processor. For the graphics card, they recommend a Radeon RX 570 or Nvidia
GeForce GTX 970 GPU. But if you had more than power than the recommended, you’ll be able
to get the game to run at least in 70FPS at 1080p using ultra, high and medium settings, which
to me, is pretty good in and of itself. And those high detail graphics in that beautiful looking
world? What more could you ask for?
Something to note is that we recommend you install the game on an SSD, rather than an HDDs solely because load times can be a pain. But besides that, the game is well optimised to take ont the Locust, so get to hunting boys!
