East Malaysian’s are having a torrid time with their internet connection…yet again. This is the third time in a span of just 2 months the people in Sabah and Sarawak have encountered disruption to their phone and internet lines from Telekom Malaysia.
In a recent report, TM detected its vital submarine cable connecting Peninsular to the other part of Malaysia being severely damaged or cut due to construction work from TNB. Located in Cherating towards Alor Akar the cable is a key landing site for internet traffic coming from Sabah & Sarawak via submarine cable to TM’s central network. Unifi and telephone line users in the affected states have been encountering poor service and intermittent connection for the past 2 days. Many have rant out their frustration to TM on the slow feedback and cant understand why such incidents have occurred so many times over the past month. There were even some of suggesting sabotage by TNB, a far fetched claim nonetheless.
PC.com also reported on an incident recently where rats were accused of chewing off cables causing another series of disruption in the 2 states. However, TM assures repairs are underway and expected to be completed early today, service should resume to normalcy.
