TNB Plans To Install 1.2 Million Smart Meter In Klang Valley, Says It Gives Accurate Reading Even During MCO

While the energy giant tackles its ongoing dialog with the public, on the high electricity bill it dished out, the Wholesale Department under TNB will be going ahead with the installation of smart meters in Klang Valley as scheduled.

1.2 million households will be fitted with the smart meter after a successful pilot deployment was achieved in Melaka and Putrajaya. The operator manged to install 340,000 units of the highly advanced meters that allows users to monitor and control power usage in their homes. The main aim is to eventually phase out the outdated meters used currently and replace all 9 million units by 2021.

One of the positive features on the smart meter is that consumers can be rest assured that they will get accurate readings on the bills even if there were lockdowns in the future. Other features include real-time monitoring of usage, where consumers can track on hourly basis on the amount of electricity they are consuming. Users can either opt to receive their bills via email, over TNB app or directly on Tenaga’s webpage. Payment can also be conducted over the internet from anywhere, no waiting for the bill to arrive in the postbox or heading out to TNB counters to settle payments.

TNB wont be in a pickle now if it had rolled out the installation last year, the public could have monitored their usage and controlled the amount of electricity used. It tried out the technology in 2016 and will only look at deploying it nationwide within these 2 years.
