Those who have been on TM’s fixed broadband service would have experienced intermittent and slow internet for the pass few days, this was due to a fault in the cable connecting North Asia and the US.
Telekom Malaysia has released a statement that the problem will be fixed by end of the month, users have been complaining on social platforms of incredibly slow speeds and frequent disruption while on the net.
The company also mentioned that while the fixing is taking place users might experience some degree of service degradation such as slow browsing and high latency while accessing international websites mainly hosted in the US, North Asia and Europe, it said.
“TM wishes to announce that our consortium members have detected a fault in the Asia Submarine Cable Express (ASE) system off Singapore, which has affected our Cahaya Malaysia submarine cable linking Malaysia to North Asia and the US.
“ASE consists of six fiber pairs of which TM owns two fiber pairs, named as Cahaya Malaysia.
TM has pro-actively taken steps by optimising its networks to reduce congestion and diverting traffic to alternative routes to minimise the impact on our users.
However, the restoration works will be subject to weather and sea conditions, identification of the actual location of the fault and the challenges of working at great sea depths and pressure.
It has apologised for the inconvenience.
