TM Attacked By Scammers

Unsuspecting Telekom Malaysia customers should be wary of scam emails supposedly from the telco notifying them that they have won large sums of money. TM has issued a cautionary statement informing the public that no such contest were held and neither is there are prize money being handed out.

Such emails are not new, TM has been inundated by certain individuals trying to take advantage of the network operators popularity by tricking the people with scams like this. In this instance, customers were told that they have won a special family lottery ticket. The sender of the e-mail requests the e-mail recipients to surrender their personal details for them to claim the cash prize. Data harvesting has become a serious norm in the country with many still not aware of the value of personal information. Scammers are using the ignorance to their advantage.

Another bold scam on TM involved reseller agents and installation contractors requesting customers to pay their monthly subscription fees for the service directly to them. The gall and gumption of these agents to prey on the weak is totally uncalled for, the public have to be more careful when allowing contractors into their home.

There has even been companies claiming to be collection agencies authorised by TM to collect payments on their behalf, a blatant strategy to persuade the customer to pay to them instead of at the TM points. This will end up poorly for the customers as they will still need to pay their bills eventually, a double whammy you can say. The best thing here is to be more cautious when dealing with payments online or at collection centres, make sure  you are on the right website and at the right centre when making your payment.

TM has assured that it will investigate this fraudulent cases and bring the perpetrators to justice, however the best way to deal from being scammed is to be more apprehensive ourselves when comes to such matters.
