TM has finally come out with reduced broadband package after numerous calls by MCMC, mobile operators have already brought down their packages not too long ago. Two news packages have been announced; the first at RM38 a month (excluding GST) for 1Mbps with data usage of up to 1GB. Which is 57% lower than the current offering at RM88 for the existing 1Mbps package, and will be made available starting 16 June 2015. Meanwhile, a new UniFi 10Mbps triple play package at RM179 a month (excluding GST) will also be introduced 15 July 2015. The new UniFi 10Mbps package will include unlimited broadband Internet access, free fixed telephone calls nationwide and 22 basic HyppTV channels. This new package is 10% lower than the existing UniFi 10Mbps package of RM199/month.

Imri Mokhtar, Executive Vice President, Consumer and SME, TM when commenting on the package introduction says, “We applaud the Government’s move to drive broadband adoption, and to increase household penetration from the current 70% in a shorter time. We fully support this in our role as Malaysia’s Convergence Champion, already contributing more than 40% to the national broadband penetration rate, and by providing a comprehensive suite spanning the range of segments, to all Malaysians. It is also in line with the Ministry’s effort to increase reach, especially to the underserved, towards bridging the digital divide. TM looks forward to be part of this accelerated journey in enabling an enhanced integrated digital society, and will continue to boost our efforts via more value-added offerings options – not only for individual lifestyles but also digitalising businesses of all scales / sizes, in line with our promise of “Life and Business Made Easier”. We believe the new 1Mbps package will motivate customers to move up to 1Mbps to experience higher speeds at the same price albeit with the 1GB volume capping – especially those who are currently subscribing to the 384kbps package. Whilst the new 10Mbps package will also help encourage those who are already enjoying high speed broadband to further enhance their experience.”

With over 2.2 million users on the broadband service, the reduction will be a welcome relief for those on the 1mps package as the 6%GST on the prepaid cards and household expenditure going up already caused much grief to the public.
