Time Restriction Lifted On ATMs, They’re Back 24 hours

All banks can resume to operate their Automated Teller Machines (ATM) as per usual with the lifting of the restrictions effective tomorrow, June 1.

Previously under the Conditional CMO, unnamed ATM’s were only allowed to be open from 8am to 8pm, the decision to restrict the timing was to prevent people from visiting the machines after curfew hours. Before the restrictions, ATM’s were allowed to operate 24 hours but many abused the allowance and were making late night outings using the excuse of going to withdraw money. On April 19, the government placed a time restriction on ATM centres not exceeding 8pm.

The decision to lift comes across with the easing of lockdown in the country in relation to the reduction of Covid 19 cases among the community. As of end May infection rate stood at low double digit and could see it coming further within the next week or so.

However, Senior Security Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri cautioned people to ensure they still practice social distancing and look after themselves and others when visiting the ATM centres.
