TI7 Main Event – Day 3

Day 3 of the TI7 was not short of excitement as we saw two more teams make their exit, thus cutting down the list to just eight teams vying for that US$10 million first prize. The first game of the day saw Team OG going up against TNC Pro Team, which turned out to not be a repeat of last year’s TI as TNC wiped the floor with OG. This time round, it was OG who had the upper hand and took both games off of TNC convincingly, sending themselves further up the Lower Bracket.

The next Lower Bracket match saw DC and LGD Gaming (LGD) go head-to-head in a best-of-three. Although DC did put up quite a fight in game one with Abed’s signature Meepo pick, it was not enough to take down LGD, who made short work of them in both games, ending the series in under an hour. This sets LGD up to face against OG, who are currently on a hot streak and doesn’t appear to be stopping, which could make for a thrilling best-of-three series.

Up next is the first Upper Bracket match between two Chinese teams in the form of Newbee and Invictus Gaming (iG). Only the third series to go to all three games, Newbee eventually came out, sending iG down to the Lower Bracket where they will be waiting for the victor between OG and LGD. This was followed up by LGD.ForeverYoung (LFY) against Virtus Pro (VP) where LFY were simply too much for VP to handle. From the draft alone, LFY made it very difficult for VP to pull off their strategies and plays, which resulted in a 2-0 loss, sending them down, awaiting the winner from the Team Liquid vs Team Empire series.

Also announced during the main event was the highly-anticipated results on which hero won this year’s Arcana showdown. With over 57.5 million votes cast through this year’s Compendium, Pudge will be the next hero to receive an Arcana upgrade. Sadly, Rubick lost out by 8,711 votes but hopefully, this would mean that Rubick will also receive his own Arcana in next year’s TI Compendium.
