After releasing the Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro, Xiaomi have come out with a new Mi 10 “Youth Edition” in China. What makes this so appealing of course, would have to be the price point the Mi 10 “Youth Edition” comes with. But before that, let’s get into what the device is actually packing.
The Mi 10 Youth Edition comes with a 6.57-inc FHD+ AMOLED display, but misses the 90Hz refresh rate of the Mi 10 lineup. There is however, a 180Hz sampling rate for quicker touch response, as well as an in-display fingerprint reader.
On the inside, the Mi 10 Youth Edition comes with a Snapdragon 765G processor AND a 5G modem, which supports SA and NSA networks. Not bad for what a’budget’ device. Supporting the Snapdragon 765G is 6 or 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 64, 128 or 256GB of UFS 2.1 storage.
Powering the device is a well-sized 4160mAh battery with QuickCharge4+ support via USB-C, and comes with a 22.5W fast charger. There’s also a 3.5mm headphone jack, and infrared blaster.
And yes, I know what you’re thinking, “Just a Snapdragon 765G processor?” but taking into account the current climate and device prices, it’s the best we could hope for.
For their cameras, on the rear the Mi 10 Youth Edition sports a square camera array consisting of 48MP main camera, 8MP periscope telephoto lens capable of a 5x optical zoom, 10x hybrid zoom and 50x digital zoom. The two other sensors include an 8MP ultra-wide camera and a dedicated macro lens. On the front, the Mi 10 Youth Edition has a 16MP camera in a waterdrop notch style setup.
In China, the Mi 10 Youth Edition starts off at these prices:
- 6GB RAM + 64GB storage – CNY 2,099 (~RM1,290)
- 6GB RAM + 128GB storage – CNY 2,299 (~RM1,400)
- 8GB RAM + 128GB storage – CNY 2,499 (~RM1,540)
- 8GB RAM + 256GB storage – CNY 2,799 (about RM1,700)
With a starting price of RM1290? That’s a steal for what the Mi 10 Youth Edition is offering. In 2020, we’re seeing less and less cheaper devices, with higher markups to accommodate 5G, and other new features. Hopefully, we see some form of this device brought over to the Malaysian market. Because with a RM1,700 price point for a device with essentially everything you need, and future-proofed by 5G? That really is a steal.
