The New Mutants movie has set its fifth release date since its first, which is currently on August 28, 2020.

The movie was initially set to release in theatres all the way back on April 13, 2018. It was then pushed to February 10, 2019, with reports suggesting the move was to avoid going up against Deadpool 2, which released on May 18, 2018.

It was pushed again just weeks before that release date, as Fox reshuffled schedules for its movies, including Bohemian Rhapsody and X-Men: Dark Phoenix. The movie was pushed to August 2, 2019 as a result.

It was during this time that there were talks of reshoots, though it never happened. Regardless, test screenings for the film that happened in 2017 were apparently met with praise.

Disney then went on to acquire Fox in early 2019 and was reportedly ‘unimpressed’ with the film. For most people, it was disappointing to hear since the film was meant to spawn a new trilogy.

Despite that, the film somehow got the clear to go on to theatres. So, an April 3, 2020 release was set.

Then, the pandemic attacked. As with most other movies in 2020, its April 3 release was cancelled as the situation grew worse.

Though it’s currently set to release on August 28, 2020, I can’t help but wonder if this will finally be the date it gets to release in theatres.

As things are now, whatever date a movie sets now looks to be on “at the moment” basis.

I mean, if we inch closer to the date without any issues then the movie can certainly play in theatres, but if the situation gets worse? The movie may see yet another delay and be pushed to next year, for all I know.

There was speculation the film would be released on Disney+ instead, though that’s evidently not the case.

If the movie faces another delay, though, it’s honestly something Disney should consider at that point. It’s been waiting to release for way too long already.
