I don’t know if you know how Disney does things these days but when it comes to movies, they’re normally super secretive about it. To illustrate my point, one only has to look at Avengers: Endgame- The actors didn’t even get to full scripts! And that wasn’t the end of it. A lot of what was on their scripts contained fake dialogue. Remember that Tony Stark funeral? Cast members were told to suit up for a wedding! Pretty insane, huh?
You’d think that all these measures are a little extreme, but then you hear stories like this, about how John Boyega almost leaked the entire script to the finale of the Star Wars franchise and you can’t help but to think that maybe the people over at Disney aren’t so crazy after all.
Star Wars is arguably one of the most popular franchises on the planet, so imagine the surprise of Disney/Lucasfilm execs when an authentic copy of the script to The Rise of Skywalker popped up on eBay. When news of the leak first surfaced a couple of days ago, director JJ Abrams told Entertainment Weekly that a careless actor had left it under their bed and it was found by someone who was cleaning their place.
We now know that the careless actor was none other than John Boyega, who plays Finn in the film. The actor went on Good Morning America and admitted that he was at fault for almost derailing the entire franchise. It turned out that he had left the script under his bed and forgot about it while he was partying with friends.
“I was moving apartments, and I left the script under my bed,” Boyega said. “I was like, ‘I will leave it under my bed and when I wake up the next morning, I will take it and then move.’ But then my boys came over and we started partying a little bit. The script, it just stayed there. And a few weeks after, this cleaner comes in, finds this script and puts it on eBay for like 65 pounds.”
John Boyega
It’s funny how the person who sold it only put it up for a measly 65 pounds. Thats RM350. The final chapter of the Star Wars franchise, which probably cost hundreds of millions in production could’ve been ruined for RM350. (The person who put it on sale obviously didn’t know it’s true value)
Thankfully though, Someone who works at Disney saw the item up for sale and bought it so they “got it back before it sold.” John Boyega and the rest of the Disney crew were probably shitting bricks up till then though.
