According to Reuters, Mobileye has broken it ties with the electric car maker Tesla due to its forcefulness in pushing the limits when it comes to safety with the auto-pilot system. Mobileye claims that in the long term, this kind of issue would hurt the companies and the entire industry following two fatal crash involving Tesla’s car, one in Florida and one in China.

Amnon Shashua, who is also chief technology officer at the Israel-based maker of collision detection and driver assistance systems, told Reuters that the autopilot system is not made to cover all types of crashes and situations in a safe manner and that the system is more of a driver assistance systems than a driverless system. So human drivers would still need to keep their eyes on the road and hands on the wheels and not try anything crazy. Tesla spokeswoman said that drivers must be prepared to take on the wheels anytime when needed.

Elon Musk told a press conference in July that the split between Tesla and Mobileye was inevitable.
