Telcos Fined RM3.5 Million By MCMC

Malaysian Communication Multimedia Commission issued over RM3.5 million in compound last year to telecommunication company for various offenses under the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998.
A total of 94 compound were issued with 40 made out in just November alone totaling RM1.66 million while 54 in March till September. Mainly for recurring offence in failure to validate and provide original documents required by dealers and retailers to submit for simcard registration. These operators have been numerous times been fined for the same offence. Listed on the MCMC website, among the operators who were found to having committed the faults were Maxis Mobile, U Mobile, Digi Telecommunications, Tune Talk, Celcom Mobile, XOX Com and Altel Communications.
Apart from telcos, the agency also issued compound for content violation by broadcasters and were given to provider Measat Broadcast Network (Astro).
