Taiwan Excellence Intercollege Battleground 2018 Begins in Malaysia

The largest intercollegiate eSports tournament in Malaysia is well on its way. Called Taiwan Excellence Intercollege Battleground 2018 (TEIB), the competition features 10 contending champions from qualifiers held within six different cities. An impressive prize pool of RM 130,000 is also up for grabs.

The momentous Grand Finale takes place this coming October and gathers 10 teams from 10 different universities. These selected universities consist of KDU, INTI, HELP, Taylor’s, TARC, MMU, UMS, UCSI, First City, and Southern.

The main eSports titles covered are Dota 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, and League of Legends. In addition to these main games, other titles such as Asseto Corsa, Tekken 7, and Street Fighter V are also available to visitors.

As big Taiwanese companies in eSports, Acer Predator, ASUS ROG, and MSI take the forefronts as TEIB 2018’s major sponsors. Additionally, other notable brands include Aous, Kingmax, In Win, Team Group, Thermaltake, Transcend, and XPG. These companies will also contribute their latest gaming devices to support the tournament.

The competition exists in hopes of connecting rapidly emerging eSports communities together, to further bolster eSports within Malaysia. Representative James Chang Chi-Ping of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia states that the event will also hopefully increase exposure towards Taiwanese ICT brands, thus strengthening trading ties with Malaysia.

The Taiwan Excellence Awards is an initiative by Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs. It serves to promote the very best of the country’s domestic products to an international market. The event is presented by Taiwan’s Bureau of Foreign Trade (BOFT) and Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA).
