Swatch is pretty serious about its smartwatch ambitions. The Swiss watch maker has plans to release more models next year including NFC enabled and with payment capabilities. CEO Nick Hayek is adamant with his direction since being abandoned by Microsoft on the MSN Direct project which was suppose to provide the platform for the Swatch smart watches. Now the company is going at it by itself, and Hayek is confident after the release of Touch Zero One a no frills electronic watch that counts steps and volleyball spikes, the awareness will increase for the Swiss brand and plant a footing in the new market segment.
Unlike other watch brands who are still grappling on how to approach the smartwatch attack, Swatch is investing long term, fully embracing in the smartwatch giving the outlook as the future rather than just a trend. The watches will not be too complicated like Samsungs Gear or Applewatch but offer functions with basic necessities, paired with a smartphone and receive stats like step counter, health monitor and yes tell time too.
