The World Photography Organisation revealed the winners of stunning images at the 2019 Sony World Photography Award’s competition. The amount of photographs submitted were record breaking across 195 countries and territories across the world as 10 winners of Open categories were announced. Some of the winners include:
- Architecture: Philippe Sarfati, French with the image Heatwave
- Culture (supported by Culture Trip): Pan Jianhua, China Mainland with the image Shadow Puppetry
- Creative: Martin Stranka, Czech, with the image Dreamers and Warriors
- Motion: Christy Lee Rogers, American with the image Harmony
The categories included were open to any photographer who felt they had what it took. The photographers themselves are from a wide variety of cultures, countries and varied styles of photography.
Some converted from their day jobs to be a photographer, professionals, and enthusiasts alike came together to create the unique, striking images.
However, 10 winners in the open categories will now have to compete for the Open Photographer Of The Year with a cash prize of $5000 (RM 20,357). The battle royale for photographers.
The winners for this competition will be announced at the Awards ceremony in London on April 17.
Besides the Open category winners, Sony also celebrates local talent with National Awards. Photographers of all abilities from across the globe such as Peru, Vietnam and Mexico are recognized and provides the photographers an opportunity to showcase their talents.
Previous winners have taken advantage of their new found fame and changed their lives for the better. Peruvian photographer Pedro Jarque Krebs was shortlisted in 2018’s Open competition. From there he has gone to win other multiple awards, nationally and internationally.
