Steam Stricter on Game Publishers Using Pre-Rendered Images & Videos

After the debacle of No Man’s Sky, Valve is tightening the rules regarding images on game store pages. From now on, only screenshots from inside the game itself will be allowed to be labelled as ‘in-game’ images.

This policy will be put in place as part of Steam’s Discovery Update 2.0, which will come within the month of November.

Under this new rule, concept art, pre-rendered stills or videos and marketing material will be disallowed. Instead, producers will have to show what the game actually looks like to play. Valve took responsibility and made an example of itself with Dota 2, stating that they too had used inappropriate images to promote the game, and will be making the necessary changes.
